Culinary Arts – New!

Art & Food Lecture Series : Presented by CAFÉ (Clemson Area Food Exchange)……….…6-week series

Tuesday, February 28th – April 3rd, 5:00–6:00pm                Ages 16+

In its mission to cultivate an appreciation of local food, the local food market known as the Clemson Area Food Exchange (CAFE) will present a six-speaker lecture series on some of the various ways that food and art connect; from the canvas to the table, the field to the kitchen. Members of the CAFE and the local community will speak on topics such as food in the history of art, making art with food, the “art appeal” of food, the art of cooking and eating well, and even the farm as art.

The series is based on the idea that food has long been a medium for art, whether in painting, cooking, gastronomy—the art of good eating, or farming itself. In addition, both art and food are used to create a sense of community, the mission of both the Arts Center and CAFÉ.

Speakers include Dr. Lance Howard, from Clemson University, a geographer, geomancer, photographer, and gardener; Emily Havener, food therapist and founder of Green Apple Food Therapy, promoting preventive and restorative nutrition; Eli Montgomery of Winnie Mae’s CSA and local kitchen; Dana Howard, art historian at the Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities in Greenville, SC; and Ellen Hotz, M.S.N., a certified drugless practitioner and health coach with 25 years specializing in family medicine and oncology with expertise in nutrition and exercise.
