Ceramics Studio Director
Cindy Hart

cindyCindy received her Bachelor of Arts degree, a major in pottery and a minor in textiles, from the University of New Hampshire in 1981. Before moving to South Carolina, she was a member of the NH League of Craftsmen and sold her pottery throughout the Northeast at festivals. After moving to South Carolina in 1998 she set up a studio and her pottery here. She convinced Mike to join her full time in 2003 after leaving his electronics career and they opened a membership studio while continuing to grow their production pottery business. Around 2012 they decided to close their membership and pursue their production business full time. They sell their work at festivals throughout the Southeast region.

Services offered:

Open Studio:
Adult students that show knowledge and reasonable proficiency in their craft may purchase a monthly studio membership.

This membership will give them access to their appropriate studio during regular Arts Center hours or monitored studio times.

Studio times will vary depending on availability and class schedules.  Studio memberships may not be used during classes.

Studio user must be approved by the studio director prior to studio access.  Some restrictions may apply.

Students must prepay prior to using the open studio.  Additional charges may be incurred depending upon studio and will be charged separately.

 

Monitored studio times are Tuesdays 6-9; Thursdays, 10am-1pm; Sundays, 2-5pm.  Unmonitored studio is available during regular business hours exept when classes are being held.  Please check the class schedule or with the office for availability.

Turn The Corner to Building Bigger Pots with Chris Troy
 
Saturday, January 28  10am-4pm

Join local potter Chris Troy for this workshop.  Learn techniques borrowed from traditional Korean Onggi and Native American Pueblo potters to raise the limits on your hand built pots.  Big and Tall, Low and Large-it’s all possible.  This class is for the experienced hand builder.  Bring your favorite tools.  Don’t forget paddles, ribs, rollers, fingers and thumbs!  Bring your lunch, too.  Includes 25lbs of clay, bisque and glaze firing.

Pots that Pour Workshop with Gary Huntoon
Saturday, February 4  9:30am-4pm
This class will explore pouring vessels such as pitchers, ewers, and teapots.  Different spouts and handles,both hand built and extruded will be shown.  Thrown elements will may be included but are not mandatory.  Emphasis will be on hand building with demonstration of both wheel and slab.  Bring your lunch.

Cost $100.00 ($85.00 tuition; $15.00 materials)

 

Beyond the Basics-Cups with Cindy Hart
Wednesdays, February 1-22 2pm-5pm OR 6pm-9pm

We are offering a series of beyond the basics classes for those who have taken the beginner class and want to go forward. Students must know the basics of wheel throwing including centering and trimming.  This month’s class is Cups, Mugs and handles.  We will concentrate in the cup/mug form:  straight mugs, rounded mugs, narrow bottom, wide bottom etc pulling handles  and decoration.
Cost $135.00 ($120.00 tuition; $15.00 materials)

 

 

For the birds! with Cindy Hart

Tuesdays,   February 7-28   2-5pm

In this class we will hand build pots for our fine feathered friends!  We will make a birdhouse, birdfeeder and birdbath that any self respecting bird would be proud to live and nourish themselves from!! All clay, glazing and firing included.
Cost $128.00 ($120.00 tuition; $8.00 materials)

For the Garden with Cindy Hart
Tuesdays,  March 7-28  2-5pm

In this class we will hand build pots for our hopefully abundant gardens.  We will make herb pots with a tray,  plant markers, a garden lantern and a small garden totem! All clay, glazing and firing included.
Cost $128.00 ($120.00 tuition; $8.00 materials)

 

 

Beginning Wheel with Cindy Hart
Wednesdays, March 1-April 5  9:30am-12:30pm
Learn the basics of the pottery wheel.  This class is for those who have never “thrown” on a pottery wheel.  Clay, glazing and firing included.
Cost $195.00 ($180.00 tuition; $15.00 clay)

 

Beyond the Basics-Bowls with Cindy Hart
Wednesdays, March 8-29 2pm-5pm OR 6pm-9pm

We are offering a series of beyond the basics classes for those who have taken the beginner class and want to go forward. Students must know the basics of wheel throwing including centering and trimming.  This month’s class is Bowls.  We will concentrate on the bowl form.  Wide bowls, tall bowls, how to measure for nesting bowls, batter bowls etc and how to avoid the unseemly bulge at the beginning to the wall!!

More pots for the Cook and Entertainerwith Cindy Hart
Tuesdays, April  4-25  2-5pm

In this class we will hand build pots that will make you want to have a party and invite all your friends!!  We will make a different type of cracker/ appetizer tray, a small open casserole dish, and a condiment tray with spoons! All clay, glazing and firing included.
Cost $128.00 ($120.00 tuition; $8.00 materials)

 

Beyond the Basics-Plates with Cindy Hart
Wednesdays, April 5-26 2pm-5pm OR 6pm-9pm

We are offering a series of beyond the basics classes for those who have taken the beginner class and want to go forward. Students must know the basics of wheel throwing including centering and trimming.  This month’s class is Plates.  We will concentrate on plates with and without feet, Dinner and sandwich plates and how to dry them so they don’t warp!

Cost $135.00 ($120.00 tuition; $15.00 materials)

 

 

Extreme Pots on the Wheel with Gary Huntoon

Thursdays, April 6-27 1pm-4pm
Upside down, inside out and stacked together!  Learn to combine small pots to make big pots on the wheel.  Everything goes!  Lids, handles, textures: We’re gonna play dirty!  Beginning level and up.  If you can center and pull up the wall of a pot come join the fun!

Cost $135.00 ($120.00 tuition; $15.00 materials)

For the Table! with Cindy Hart
Tuesdays, May 2-23  2-5pm

In this class we will build pots for the dining table.  These will be pots you will be happy to show and use on your table all year round! We will make small plates, trivets for the table, salt, pepper and herb/ Parmesan cheese shaker,  covered butter dish and small sugar packet container.

All clay, glazing and firing included.
Cost $128.00 ($120.00 tuition; $8.00 materials)

 

Beyond the Basics-Lidded Vessels with Cindy Hart
Wednesdays, May 10-31  2pm-5pm OR 6pm-9pm

We are offering a series of beyond the basics classes for those who have taken the beginner class and want to go forward. Students must know the basics of wheel throwing including centering and trimming.  This month’s class is Lidded Vessels.  We will concentrate on lids.  Both thrown as a bowl and right side up.  Adding knobs and measuring to fit the pot.
