Summer Art Camp

Summer Art Camp is designed for youth who enjoy activities in the visual arts.
We encourage children to explore the creative process through a variety of different art mediums.  There are many different themes to pick from!

SUMMER ART CAMP 2021

We are happy to be offering Art Camp for Summer 2021

2021 Camp Dates:

Week 1: June 14 - 18 (Preschool & Teen)

Week 2: June 21 - 25 (Preschool & Teen)

Week 3: June 28 - July 2 (5K-8th)

Week 4: July 12 - July 16 (5K-8th)

Week 5: July 19 - July 23 (5K-8th)

Week 6: July 26 - July 30 (5K-8th)

IMPORTANT CAMP/REGISTRATION INFORMATION:

  • Summer Art Camp has morning and afternoon classes, divided by grades. Please enroll your child based on the grade they are enrolled in during the 2020-2021 school year.  It is meant to be the grade they will have just finished by summer, not the grade they will be attending in the fall.  If you have any questions concerning what classes are appropriate for your child, please don't hesitate to call 864-633-5051.
  • The Preschool class is for any child that is currently potty-trained, and hasn't completed kindergarten yet.  Ages 3-5 year olds welcome.
  • Children can sign up for morning or afternoons (or both) for 1 or all 6 weeks of camp.
  • Morning camps are from 9am-12pm.
  • Afternoon camps are from 1pm-4pm.
  • Full-day campers can bring a packed lunch, and stay from 9-4pm.  They will eat lunch in the garden with a camp counselor
  • Classes are $120 for all NON-RESIDENTS - everyone that lives outside of the city of Clemson (or does not have a 29631 zip code)
  • If you are a resident of the city of Clemson, and have a 29631 zip code or a Clemson City Employee you may choose the class titled "RESIDENT" to receive a $15 discount off the class price. 
  • Scholarships are available for qualifying families. Please call or email the office to request an application form.

MITIGATION STRATEGY

REDUCING POSSIBLE TRANSMISSION OF COVID-19

  • Each camp will have a cap of 8 campers. 
  • One camp will be held in the cafeteria and the gallery.
  • Each camp will have a designated entrance and exit.
  • There will be no group activities that combine multiple camps.
  • All snacks and drinks will be individually pre-packaged.
  • No outside visitors will be allowed inside the building. Guardians will deliver children to instructors and/or staff at check-in stations outside of designated entrances. 
  • Masks will be required for all staff, instructors and children six years and older.
  • Hand sanitizer will be provided.
  • Snacks will be eaten outside in the garden. 
  • For those campers staying all day, lunch will be outside and the campers will sit 6 feet apart. In the event of rain, lunch will be held in the cafeteria with the campers 6 feet apart. 

 

IN THE EVENT OF ILLNESS OR EXPOSURE CANCELATION AND REFUND POLICY

Due to the length of camp and the small size, if any camper becomes ill, camp will be canceled,  and pro-rated refunds will be issued.  

A child/instructor/staff member that has been ill, but receives a negative COVID-19 test result, may return to the start of a future camp they are registered for after 24 hours symptom and fever free. 

A child/instructor/staff member that has been ill with COVID-19 may return to a future camp with a negative COVID-19 test taken at least 10 days after on-set of illness, and after 24 hours symptom and fever free. 

If your child was participating in a camp that gets canceled due to illness, and the ill camper/instructor/staff member receives a negative COVID-19 test, and therefore your child was not directly exposed to a positive carrier of COVID-19, and is showing no signs of illness themselves, they may return to camp at the start of any future camp they are registered for.


In the event that a camper/instructor/staff member receives a positive COVID-19 test we will notify the guardians of all exposed campers, the camp will be canceled, and pro-rated refunds will be given. Any exposed camper/instructor/staff members may return to a future camp they are registered for with a negative COVID-19 test result taken at least 7 days after exposure, and showing no sign of symptoms.  

If your camper has been exposed to a COVID-19+ family member or exhibits the following symptoms please do not send your camper to camp and report to Joan Phillips immediately at 864-633-5051.

Fever or chills
Cough
Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
Fatigue
Muscle or body aches
Headache
New loss of taste or smell
Sore throat
Congestion or runny nose
Nausea or Vomiting
Diarrhea

Summer Art Camp Scholarships are Available. 

If you would like to send your child/children to Summer Art Camp, but it would be financially straining for your family, please consider applying for a scholarship.  We award full scholarships for one session of camp to qualifying families.  All applications are confidential. Qualifications include low-income, trauma, and other extenuating circumstances.  Qualifying applicants will be awarded scholarships on a first-come first-serve basis, so email now!

Little artists will spend the morning using color and creativity. This process oriented series lets the preschooler explore cutting, pasting, drawing and painting in a playful and expressive way. This week's theme is ANIMALS!!!

DREAMCATCHERS with Lauren

Middle School - Grades 6-8th

Will we explore Native American culture, and learn about their customs and beliefs.  We will then create a personalized dream catcher to take home.

ZENTANGLES with Lauren

Middle School - Grades 6-8th

We will learn about and create zentangle patterns.  Using pencil and pen and ink, you will be encouraged to create a unique piece of art - a final work of art that is both a zentangle and more.   

SKETCHBOOK STORIES with Lindsey

High school - Grades 6-12th

We are all the author's of our own story, the hero of our own book, the narrator for the movie about our life...and artist's tell stories through pictures. You will work on telling your own personal stories through sketchbooks. Explore lines, shapes, pattern, color and mixed media.  This class is for the tween/teen ready for artistic freedom and expression.

We will learn about value and contrast and create a picture of their choice using tiny dots. This is a great opportunity to be unique and creative, while mastering this special painting technique.

By the end of this camp, you will be huge fans of weaving! Not only will you create some really neat projects, but weaving in itself is wonderfully fun and entertaining. Through weaving you will discover patterns and textures, while developing fine motor skills and eye-hand coordination. And the pieces you create will be stunning.

Students will learn watercolor techniques and create a final painting of their choice.  This is a great class for the artistic tween/teen, ready to show their creativity and create something frame worthy.

Lower Elementary - Grades K-2nd

Roll up your sleeves, put on your smock and lets get painting! We will use watercolors and tempera/acrylic paint, and experiment with alternative tools (not just brushes!). There will be a lot of freedom of expression in this class, as young artists will be encouraged to experiment.

We will learn basic and fun watercolor techniques, making colorful pieces of art together.  Then each student will create a final painting that will be frame worthy!

We will learn how to use soft pastels, and explore the ways in which this fun medium can make colorful and impressive works of art.  This is a great opportunity to try out a bold new technique, and bring home something that will impress the grown-ups!

Creating art is an amazing way to learn about other cultures. This class will look at ancient art, folk art and fine art of an amazingly diverse and colorful region. We will explore textile designs, folk painting, mask making and much more.

Do you like things that are big, messy, noisy and fun! This week will be jam packed with large-scale interactive art projects. We will do all the things you aren't allowed to do at home b/c it is TOO messy. Bubble painting, finger-painting, marble painting, and more. Bring your energy, creativity and old clothes, b/c we are going to have fun and get dirty!

PAINT, PAINT, PAINT! with Penny

Upper Elementary - Grades 3-5th

Everyone loves to paint! In this class we will dive deep into the world of acrylic paint, and make numerous canvas masterpieces. Come be inspired, get messy, and make vibrant acrylic paintings!

Students will work from life and their imagination to build a library of simple drawings in pencil and ink. Drawing from these sketches we will use watercolors, colored pencils, acrylics and other mixed media to create full scale works of art.

Like treasure from a sunken pirate wreck, we will scrub the deck and make all kinds of art that is SHINY!  We will use wire, beads, glitter, glue, tape, ribbon and more to create sculptures, art and treasures worthy of any pirates treasure box.

Join us for a fun week as we explore all things reused and recycled. We’ll be thinking out of the box using recycled materials to create sculptures, paintings, weavings, and more. Bring your thinking caps and sense of adventure! It’s going to be a fun and creative week!

This workshop puts art on your plate with a playful approach to still life and food in art. We will use our eyes and our imagination as we put a weeks worth of artistic exploration on the table with paint, markers,collage etc.

This week we will first look at the mechanics and structure of the human face, and then use or disregard this knowledge to create a wide range of portraits inspired by very different traditions.

We will be creating large stuffed animals from start to finish. We will each design our own animal/creature, then make it come alive using batik painting techniques. You will stuff it, and sew it up yourself. Take home your very own large stuffie!

UNDERWATER ADVENTURES with Krissi

Where’s the best place to spend a hot summer week? Under the sea, of course! Come dive into a week of underwater exploration as we learn about sea life and create art inspired by friendly fish-folk. We’ll be painting, sculpting, printmaking and much more!

Creativity runs wild in this class inspired by some of our favorite critters. Zooming in to study feathers fur and scales, or out to take a look at patterns and prints, we will draw, paint, build and really get to know our wild animal friends.

DRAWING WITH YOUR WILD SIDE with Catherine

Upper Elementary - Grades 3-5th

This class will explore the vast possibilities of dry media (charcoal, graphic, pen and ink, pastel). We will combine basic drawing instruction with nontraditional methods. We will focus more on discovery and less on precision as we create still lives, abstractions, automatic drawings and compositions from our own imaginations.
